Auto Parts Industry - Importance

To the third quarter of 2011, transportation equipment manufacuring accounts for 20% of GDP manufacturing, exports of auto parts represent 13% of total exports, employment generated by the auto industry represents 18% of manufacturing employment and flow of foreign direct investment in auto parts is 15% of total FDI flow destined to the manufacturing industry.

Employment and the Auto Parts Sector

91% of the employment in the automobile industry comes from the auto parts sector. People employed in the sector fell 19% in 2009 compared against 2008. During 2010, the employment increased 13% from the previous year. October 2011 shows record figures of 599,701 people.


Auto Parts Production Value

Between 2009 and 2010 the value of auto parts production increased 44% in all categories. Between January and October of 2011, the value of auto parts production is 20% over the same period in 2010. Systems with a higher demand in terms of its production volume are related to the manufacturing of electrical parts, transmissions, clutches and engine parts.

Auto Parts Trade Balance

The trade balance of auto parts of Mexico compared with rest of the world has remained in surplus. The beginnings of recovery in domestic production of auto parts are explained by a turning point in the value of auto parts exports to the United States, wich represents 90% of the total exports of auto parts.
